The most plausible hypotheses on the meaning of the name “Valpolicella” are those associated with the Latin word “Polesella” – “the land of many fruits” – and with “Vallis-polis-cellae” – the “valley of many cellars”. Valpolicella extends from the eastern shore of Lake Garda to the border with the Province of Vicenza.
The climate is temperate thanks to the Alps and the rich soil includes different layers of calcareous and volcanic rock and nourishes the vineyards cultivated at a height of over 500 meters. amarone wineries
Three wine-growing areas can be distinguished: the “classical” (or western) Valpolicella, the Valpatena (in the centre) and the eastern Valpolicella. amarone valpolicella wine tasting come to amarone wineries and amarone wine tasting
In 1881 Stefano de’ Stefani oversaw the first delimitation of the production areas of the wines of Verona in which the “Vini della Valpolicella” were mentioned; this definition of the area and the improvement of the production and winemaking techniques in the following eighty years led in 1968 to the official approval of the first Production Regulations for the “Valpolicella” wine with the recognition of the DOC. The grapes are mixed with different percentages, to obtain different nuances of wine. In the composition, the main grapes are: Corvina Veronese (45-95%), Corvinone (up to 50%, replacing an equal amount of Corvina) and Rondinella (5-30%). The labels can specify “Classico” and “Valpatena”, if the harvest comes from the respective areas. Look at the other wineries in the Veneto and Italy
